A touch of Tasmania

When you live in a certain place you often get tend to fall into the day to day life and either spend your weekends relaxing after a long week at work or out visiting family and friends and doing things you don't get done during the week.  You often forget how beautiful your own backyard can actually be and also don't often realise what there is on offer.  Recently I made a day trip to Stanley, it was a gorgeous sunny day and on arrival we decided to climb the nut.  After a steep walk to the top we were amazed with spectacular views across Bass Strait beaches and over the town of Stanley.
We continued on around Stanley and found a gorgeous little store Providore 24 filled with Tasmanian produce, delicious breads, funky shoes, jewellery and gifts.  I stocked up on some of my favourite Tasmanian wine and produce before heading to the wharf to check out the Stanley Sea Aquarium.  Here we learnt about the unique Tasmanian sea life that can be found in the waters off Stanley - some very interesting creatures here! We then purchased some fish and chips from the wharf and took a drive to Historic Highfield House, the original home of the Van Dieman's Land Company headquarters.  This is a beautiful old heritage building and has outstanding views over the town and the Nut.  We finished the day by heading back to the Wharf to buy a local Crayfish, the friendly staff were great and packed our Cray for the trip back up the coast.  Once home we relaxed with a glass of the Tasmanian wine and feasted on the absolutely delicious Crayfish, a perfect end to a perfect day!
